enable Javascript on their browsers (in Tools, Internet Options).

- Search for Articles, Chapters & More
- Most of these search tools pull from a large number of journals. Other types of searches are included here as well.
- Some of the listings in "Journals, Magazines, Article Collections" may have good article search features, but were not yet listed here because they were not available when reviewed, or we missed them. And remember that many journals have their own search features. Most major sites have search services, and that their holdings can be very large. See the Major Resources or Portals area for these. Online Libraries may also have what you need, but usually for a fee.

- News and Timely Reading Zones
- About this topic
- Here reside current and archived news and timely reading from diverse resources. Some of the news resources cull mental health topics from the popular press. Many of the resources have free newsletters.
- The Topical section of this area makes it easy to scan a variety of news sources without hunting in the top-level Topical area.
- News Alerts provide news articles or links directly to you via email on specific topics that you create. This way even general news sources become your own specialized clipping services. For example, Google News Alerts can notify you of new popular press articles on subjects such as "psychotherapy" or by combining terms.
- Unfortunately, as of this writing, local announcements of small-time public talks and local practices dilute the news alerts, and any unrelated articles that use your search terms will show up. For example, the term "brainwave" is slang for a fresh idea, so it yields all sorts of irrelevant articles.
- News Alerts, Customized
- Google News Alerts
- Receive links to articles about keywords you select. Consider: psychotherapy, psychotherapist, "mental health," etc. However, the articles are breezey mainstream news. Local, commonplace announcements dilute the value even more.
LINK >http://www.google.com/newsalerts?hl=en
- Science Daily Alerts
- Clinical: Psychotherapy, Assessment, Etc.
- Want more clinical info? The General topic has plenty of clinically significant and timely material. The Psychiatric area is, of course, also clinical, and offers much more than material on medication.
- New Therapist
- Science Daily
- Don't be fooled by the name, this is not just about science. As of this writing, it was doing a better job of pulling up valuable articles for professionals than the news alert services or public periodical searches. However, beware that the article lists are not entirely faithful to their topic areas. The deeper you get into the Science Daily directory structure, the more faulty the listings become. For example, the alternative psychology link displayed articles simply because they included the word alternative.
Keep to the higher levels such as Mind and Brain, and Psychology. The Health area also has many mental health articles. There are plenty of topical links for navigation.
A click on the Links tab showed The PsychIN Directory, but it was provided by The Open Directory Project.
They had an encyclopedia accessible from their home page, but is was provided by Wikipedia Encyclopedia, a semi-anarchistic but sincere and interesting resource that includes many links to resources.
Even though the news is often less helpful deeper in The PsychIN Directory structure, you can use these deeper topics as a specialized alternative search directory for articles, or a quick tab click into the Open Directory Project's topic for resource links. I don't know what aggregators provide their articles.
There are links to related discussion groups, that appear to come from Google Groups.

- As of 10/04, this isn't a typical news or reading zone, but it has timely reading. The articles are not organzed by category.
- The layout could confuse you, so heed this advice: First, the resources run down the middle and are in the somewhat larger type size. The categories off to the left are not professional resources, they appear on all the mental health pages. Second, after the first few listings, ad-supported listings appear. Don't stop! The listings continue after this and go on for several pages.
- Also important: you can quickly find yourself in the consumer-oriented holdings by clicking on category links, especially the ones on the left.

- Science Daily Additional Relevant News Topics
- Below are main categories. From those pages you will find myriad subcategories. Just remember that it is based on search technology, so there will be overlap and inaccuracy, especially if you drill deeper into the categories. Social Work, for example, had nothing on social work, but did have an article on dolphin brain evolution. Of course, there should have been one on dolphin use of social services.
- Also, when you have the option to go to Summaries or Headlines, bear in mind that you will see the same articles, just a different presentation, with Summaries including some lead text to help you decide whether to read the article. (11/04)

- About this topic
- This area, Discussion Forums Online includes general and topical forums. Within any forum, however, diverse topics, resources and news come up. The discussion threads (internal topics) can only be found in searches if the forum is open to the search engines, or if you are a member and use the internal search or follow the forum.
- You can select an appropriate forum, sign up, and begin a discussion on the topic by asking a question or posting an opinion or resource for feedback. You may participate in discussions on the topic that have already been initiated.
- Some forums are accessed online, while others send email to you. In the latter case, you should set up a separate folder for that discussion group, or at least for discussion groups in general. Otherwise, you may miss other email, or have trouble following the threads. Remember to white list the forum in your spam filter. Do not post your email address on discussion lists that are open to search engines, unless the address is disposable, because of spam.
- To save time, rather than deleting emails individually, you might want to scan for interes
