Introducing free, online: The Shimmering Manual, a self-help resource for everyone, including skeptics. This is non-metaphysical and is sensitive to related science as it unfolds.
The Shimmering Manual is for people who want to improve their self-help skills with an excellent, easily learned set of skills. Shimmering can be done on a basic level, or you can dig into the more personal or deeper aspects. After going through this manual, you'll be able to recognize shimmering skills in many self-help programs, as well as in unexpected places, such as cults that abuse these skills. In addition to learning skills with great benefits, people will gain an advantage by knowing how some people manipulate others with shimmering.
No Superstitions: Shimmering has no metaphysical ideas. You can do shimmering regardless of your opinions about consciousness or the universe.
Actual Experiences: If you want something you can do right now, enjoy these free audio experiences.
Clinicians: If you are in the mental health field, this article will shed light on what makes therapy work. If you are interested in the active ingredients of psychotherapy, this is very helpful. This article is a more technical one, especially written for you. Topics include the adaptive information processing model of psychotherapy, more on EMDR, how genetics and physiology come into play, and the connection with cognitive restructuring and desensitization. How these resources come together in legitimate therapy as well as cults and other situations is introduced.
The most core definition of shimmering is that it's your ability to turn experience into wisdom. That sounds a little corny, and there are more scientific ways to put it, but I like this definition because it gets right to the point.
When you use techniques to boost your shimmering, then you are "shimmering on purpose." There are many techniques that help you shimmer. In fact, nearly every self-help technique has at least some ingredients of shimmering. Unfortunately, many of them also have various beliefs and practices that are not so productive or even harmful. I offer training in shimmering, and bilateral sound that can help with visualization and other "inner work," but I coined the word "shimmering" because no one had created a generic word. Prior to this, you were stuck with just the names for various programs, all acting as though they were more unique than they really are.
If you cultivate a life that promotes shimmering in yourself and others, then you have adopted a shimmering lifestyle. I don't have a collection of rules that you "must" follow in order to have that lifestyle, because I know that it is very personal and there are many things to consider. There are many things that promote your ability to shimmer.
People who practice shimmering developing something I call the shimmering reflex. The hit a bump in the road of life, and they do what they need to do in order to unwind from that stress. If they begin to have trouble such as obsessive thoughts or anxiety, one of the first things they think of is getting into a shimmering state and moving through the challenge.
Shimmering helps you eliminate emotional triggers. It allows you to react to situations with more poise and objectivity. This is more advanced than learning to relax or taking some time to meditate or do Yoga every day. It lowers your stress because your emotional reactions and thought patterns are more balanced.
If you feel that spirituality is about being aligned with your higher values, then Shimmering is a spiritual practice. When you are more objective and have more peace of mind, you will be more connected to your higher values. In fact, more advanced shimmering directly focuses on this alignment. Of course, it is a very personal thing. Since shimmering is kind of a generic approach, I won't be weighing you down with a lot of rules for spirituality--and I won't be asking for donations or telling you that they will come back to you multiplied.
One of my top suggestions for spirituality is that you see your life as an unfolding work of art, and yourself as the artist. Think of aspects of yourself, such as your emotions, thoughts, relationships, and body, as creative media.
As a therapist, I have worked with many people who have had trouble recovering from trauma, addiction, and other problems. Shimmering comes from this experience, clinical sciences (yes, I stay on top of the research as much as possible), and my contacts with therapists and people who use self-help materials such as those I produce.
The skills of shimmering are very important in helping people recover their mental-emotional well being. They can help stabilize sleep patterns, reduce cravings, eliminate emotional hot buttons, change behavior for the better, and more.
People bent on high performance in sports, business, or any area of life are aware that there is a lot of fine tuning involved. They also know that issues can interfere with their performance. Shimmering skills can help high-performers eliminate obstacles and increase their focus on what works.
As a therapist, I think of people in terms of how well they are moving to the next chapter of their lives. Either they are stuck, looping, or moving forward. My mind is on the challenges that stymie them and the strengths and opportunities that they can use to move ahead. When people shift from stuck to mobile, or from looping to being aligned, they have to master or activate at least one of the shimmering skills. These skills are so central to what makes our lives meaningful, that I have chosen to be an advocate for this perspective. I've been involved in various efforts in the mental health field and some other kinds of work, but I keep coming back to shimmering. One of the reasons is that I regularly receive messages and calls from people who have had profound experiences from shimmering.
I think that shimmering skills should be as much a part of our culture as tooth brushing. But only a small part of the population is aware of these skills. Many of those who do have some of the skills don't really understand what they have, because of the beliefs that some programs attached to the skills.
Over the years, people using my recordings have contacted me with many questions. This has helped me understand what people need to learn in order to make the most of shimmering. This manual was inspired by the many contacts I have had with people asking me questions or sharing their insights.
Although shimmering doesn't take the place of a good therapist in treating psychiatric disorders, I believe that getting shimmering skills out into the world will help many people enhance their resilience and success.
A colleague suggested that I write this manual. My head was very full of various challenges at the time, so I only had a very general idea of writing a book. It seemed rather far off. But when she pointed out that it should be in the form of a manual and how much it would help people, I realized that I should really bump it up to a high priority.
